Man brandishing large knife stabs woman in Australia; arrested

Sydney, Aug 13 (UNI) An man brandishing a large knife on the streets of Australian capital, stabbed a woman in broad daylight which sparked a major police operation.

He was later arrested.

Police confirmed this afternoon that a woman was stabbed in the back and was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a stable condition.

It’s believed the woman was stabbed inside Hotel CBD, on the corner of York and King streets, which police say remains an active crime scene.

A witness who chased the man could be heard saying: "Do you know how many people you just stabbed, you dog?

"You just stabbed a chick, mate, in broad daylight."

Earlier, the man was seen jumping on the bonnet and roof of a Mercedes.

He was also heard yelling "Allahu Akbar" at an intersection as passersby tried to apprehend him, 7 news said in a report.

Superintendent Gavin Wood told reporters the man had made "multiple attempts" to stab other people but was "luckily unsuccessful". He praised the efforts of passersby who executed the citizen's arrest.
