Malankara Orthodox, Roman Catholic churches to jointly prepare curriculum in theology

Kottayam, Dec 17 (UNI) Even as the dispute between Jacobite and Orthodox factions in the Malankara Church is intensifying over sharing of churches and its assets, the Malankara Orthodox Church and Roman Catholic Church have decided to join hands to prepare a curriculum for higher studies in theology.
A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting of the Joint Commission for Theological Dialogue which was formed by the Orthodox and Catholic churches at Mar Baselios Dayara in Njaliakuzhy here, sources said on Tuesday.
According to Orthodox Church authorities, the chapters for the Sunday school classes will be prepared on the basis of the agreements reached between the two churches in previous years.
The meeting decided to publish books on the important studies on faith by the respective church heads.
The meeting also decided to chart programmes to enhance cooperation between the seminaries of the two churches and provide guidelines for getting required pastoral services to other church members in various educational institutions and hospitals.
These decisions will be published and intimated to all centres according to the consents from church centres. Alongside a blue print of the common resources for writing the history of the two churches has been prepared, the sources said.
