Mah Govt ready for CBI inquiry into road scam in BMC: Patil

Mumbai, Jul 28 (UNI) Minister of State for Urban Development Ranjit Patil today assured the Maharashtra Legislative Council that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry would be initiated in the alleged road construction scam in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) region, if needed.
Replying to a calling attention motion moved by Congress member Narayan Rane about the huge scam having been unearthed in the construction of roads in the Corporation area leading to the arrest of contractors and officials, Mr Patil informed the House that in the inquiry into construction of 200 roads, it came to light that there was a fraud of Rs 14 crore.
In the road scam, two Chief Engineers, four Deputy Engineers and 12 Auditors have been arrested, he said and added that if needed, the government was ready to conduct a CBI inquiry into the matter.
