LS Speaker Sumitra Mahajan leads parliamentary delegation to Argentina

New Delhi, Oct 30 (UNI) An Indian Parliamentary delegation led by Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan left for Buenos Aires, Argentina on Tuesday to attend the G-20 Parliamentary Speakers Summit, G-20 Women Speakers' Summit and a Parliamentary Forum of G-20 countries to be held there from October 31.
The Summit will continue till November 2, an official release said here on Tuesday.
The delegation also consists of T K Rangarajan, MP Rajya Sabha, Shobha Karandlaje, MP Lok Sabha, Snehlata Shrivastava, Secretary General Lok Sabha and Secretary to the delegation PC Koul, Joint Secretary Lok Sabha Secretariat.
The events are being jointly organized by Parliament of Argentina and Inter Parliamentary Union, Geneva in the context of the forthcoming 13th G-20 Leaders' Summit which will take place in Buenos Aires on 30 November and 1 December, 2018 on the theme “Building consensus for fair and sustainable development”.
The Buenos Aires Speakers’ Summit will facilitate interaction of the Presiding Officers of the Parliaments of G-20 countries with the G-20 Ministers and senior officials of the United Nations, the source said.
During the Summit, the participating delegates will be updated on the progress made in the course of implementation of the G-20 recommendations.
The Summit provides for an unique opportunity to explore avenues to link parliamentary perspectives in support of the implementation of the G20 decisions.
Following a hearing with G-20 Ministers and key officials, the Summit will engage the participating Speakers in an interactive debate to identify the role of parliaments in G-20 architecture.
It will also allow participating Speakers to exchange views and experiences in order to support the implementation of the G-20 recommendations.
The delegates will also attend a Parliamentary Forum to be held on the sidelines of the Speakers' Summit which will facilitate the dialogue among the participants to explore the contribution of G-20 to the global efforts addressing core challenges the world is facing.
The Summit will also be followed by a Parliamentary Women Speakers’ Summit on the theme “Mainstreaming the empowerment of women into the global agenda”.
A Joint Statement will also be adopted after the conclusion of the Speakers' Summit, the source said.
