New Delhi, May 19 (UNI) A voter turnout of 61 per cent was recorded till 1700 hrs on Sunday in the seventh and last phase of Lok Sabha polls covering 59 constituencies spread over seven states and one union territory.
'In the seventh phase, 61 per cent voter turnout was recorded upto 1700 hrs,' the Election Commission said at a news conference here.
The poll panel said women voters participated in large numbers.
In the last and final phase of Lok Sabha polls, 7.27 crore voters took part of which 3.47 crore were women and 3,377 were persons of third gender.
Voting was held in 542 parliamentary constituencies across the country with Tamil Nadu's Vellore being countermanded after vitiation of the process due to large seizures of cash.
Polling was by and large peaceful baring sporadic incidents of violence in West Bengal where the turnout recorded till 1600 hrs at 65.59 per cent.
Giving voter turnout for other states, the poll panel said, in Punjab, the polling percentage was 60 per cent till 1700 hrs.
In Union Territory--Chandigarh, the voter turnout was recorded 65 per cent till 1700 hrs, Himachal Pradesh recorded 65.5 per cent till 1700 hrs, Madhya Pradesh recorded 58 per cent till 1500 hrs.
Jharkhand witnessed 68.27 per cent voter turnout till 15000 hrs while Bihar recorded 50.86 per cent till 1700 hrs and Uttar Pradesh recorded 53.19 per cent till 1800 hrs.
Giving final figure of voter turnout till sixth phase of polls, the Election Commission said it
was put at 67.34 per cent.
Giving further details about phase wise voter turnout in the Lok Sabha polls 2019, the poll panel said in the first phase was 69.61 per cent, in second phase it was 69.44 per cent, in third phase it was 68.4 per cent, fourth phase recorded 65.5 per cent, fifth phase was 64.16 per cent and the sixth phase witnessed 64.4 per cent
