Lord Vishnu ad: SC stays proceedings against Dhoni
Dhoni
New Delhi, Jan 29 (UNI) The Supreme Court today stayed criminal proceedings against India's cricket captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, in connection with a case which was registered against him for allegedly portraying himself as Lord Vishnu in an advertisement. After hearing the petition filed by the cricketer, Dhoni, a division bench, headed by Justice Dipak Misra, issued a notice to the respondent Yerraguntla Shyam Sundar and asked him to file a detailed response in the case. The Apex Court also sought a detailed response from the Andhra Pradesh police within eight weeks. Sundar had filed the complaint against Dhoni in a magisterial court in Anantpur in Andhra Pradesh. Dhoni had approached the Apex Court seeking transfer of the criminal case from a court in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh to Bengaluru in Karnataka. The Supreme Court had also issued a notice to noted social activist, Jayakumar Hiremath, who had lodged a criminal complaint against India's ODI captain in a Bengaluru trial court. It sought a reply from Hiremath after hearing the cricketer's Special Leave Petition (SLP) which had challenged the Karnataka High Court order. UNI XC RP1435
