Live-in partners arrested for allegedly killing elderly couple and nurse for money

New Delhi, Jun 26 (UNI) Delhi Police crime branch has arrested a lady and his friend for allegedly murdering the elderly couple and their nursing attendant in Vasant Vihar area, the police said on Wednesday.

According to Special Commissioner of Police Crime Branch, the duo have been identified as 42 year old Preeti Sehrawat and 39 year old Manoj Bhatt, who were said to be in a live-in relationship for about three years, and Preeti was known to the deceased lady Shashi Mathur.

The two were arrested from Gurugram on Wednesday, while they were staying in a hotel.

They were tracked after the police got a clue during investigation after talking to the deceased's daughter who mentioned Preeti's name amongst those people who had visited her parents most recently. Preeti had also called up the deceased's daughter using their nurse Khushboo's phone.

Later they were tracked while their activities were also monitored that raised suspicion over them.

Preeti was Mrs Mathur's one of the friend's daughter and was living away from her husband since several years and later came in touch with Manoj Bhatt.

The two accused hatched a plan in view of taking away cash and other precious items such as jewellery from the elderly couple as they were in desperate need of money after facing loss in their paying guest and restaurant business that they had together started.

On the night of June 17, Preeti had come to Mathur's residence and stayed overnight so as to understand and be familiar with the two as well as their nursing attendant Khushboo.

Later, on June 21, both Preeti and Manoj had come to the Vasant Vihar apartments outside Mathur's residence to do a recce of the surroundings including the placement of CCTVs.

On the intervening night of June 22 -23, Preeti again visited the deceased's residence, and this time made Manoj also enter the residence.

Later, at first they allegedly stabbed Khushboo to death and later killed the couple who had gone to their room to sleep and then took away cash and other valuables including jewellery from their place.

Initially the angle of robbery was being ruled out because of the nature of entry and also there were no such evidence or situation inside the house that suggested loot to be the motive behind crime.

It was during questioning by the police that the duo revealed and confessed things.

Some jewellery and cash amounting to Rs 86,000 has also been recovered from their possession, the police said.

Further questioning of the two is on and the probe is underway in the matter.
