Liquor baron Vijay Mallya, on the run, turns to Supreme Court

New Delhi, Dec 7 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Friday issued notice to the Enforcement Directorate after hearing a petition filed by liquor baron Vijay Mallya seeking a stay on the proceedings to declare him a fugitive economic offender and confiscate his assets.
Headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, the bench issued notice to the ED on the high-flying businessman's petition.
After hearing Mallya's plea, the apex court declined to stay the proceedings initiated by the ED.
The bench refused to stay the proceedings initiated by the ED to declare the embattled tycoon a fugitive economic offender.
Mallya had moved the apex court challenging the Bombay HC's order of November 22 that had rejected his plea.
On October 30, a special court in Mumbai had turned down a plea to stay the proceedings against Mallya under the 2002 Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
