Lightning kills 7 in AP district

Vijayawada, Jun 1 (UNI) Heavy rain accompanied by lightning killed seven persons, cattle and sheep at various places in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh on Thursday night.
Police said that a farmer, identified as, Chinnapareddy Shiva Reddy (60) was killed when lightning struck on him while he was working in his field at Dondapadu village of Narasaraopet mandal. A woman sustained serious injuries in the incident.
At Pamidimarru village, Anatha Peddabaiah (30) was killed when he was struck by lightning and four persons sustained injuries in the incident. The condition of one of them, D Eeshwara Rao is said to be serious. As many as 20 sheep were perished in the incident. Tahasilkar Vijaya Jyothi Kumari visited the village and scene of the incident on Friday.
At Krosuru village a woman Kumbha Koteswaramma (60), an agriculture labourer, was killed when lightning struck on her while working at field. Two persons sustained burn injuries in the incident. At Dhoolipalla village of Sattenamalli Mandal Kopuri Ashok (29) was killed when lightning struck on him when was taking bulls to the fields for grazing. Another cattle grazer sustained injuries in the incident.
At Bethapudu village in Oonugupadu mandal, lightning struck one Dasari Bollaiah (27) killing him on the spot. A fruit juice vendor Dugyala Anjaiah (35) was killed when lightning struck on him at new bridge downstream the Nagarjuna Sagar project. A farmer Shivalashetti Prasad (55) was killed when lightning struck on him at Yerraguntlapadu village in Phirangipuram mandal. Another cattle grazer sustained injuries in the incident.
Rain accompanied by heavy winds created havoc in Sattenapalli and Pidiguralla towns in this district last night and several massive trees and electric polls were uprooted.
Meanwhile, cloudy weather prevailed in Vijayawada city on Friday.
