Life remains crippled as separatists extend strike till September Ist

Srinagar, Aug 25 (UNI) There was still no relief for people in the Kashmir valley, where life remained crippled due to curfew and restrictions under Section 144 CrPC imposed by the authorities for the 48th day today, when Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is in the town to hold talks with leaders of mainstream parties and others to restore normalcy. Mr Singh before arriving here yesterday on a two-day visit said he will hold talks with all stakeholders and that those who believe in ‘Kashmiriyat, Insaniyat and Jamhooriyat’ are welcome. Meanwhile, the separatists had extended strike till September Ist in protest against killing of 68 persons in security force firing since July 9, a day after Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander and two militants were killed in an encounter in Anantnag. The authorities extended curfew to Pulwama, where a teenager youth was killed and more than 40 persons were injured when security forces opened fire and burst teargas shells yesterday to foil 'pro freedom' rally. About 18 CRPF and police personnel, including some officers, were also injured in two hand grenade attacks in Pulwama yesterday. Apprehending trouble following the death of a youth Amir Gul Mir and injuries to over 40 others in security forces action to disperse pro freedom demonstrators yesterday, authorities announced imposition of curfew again to maintain law and order. District Magistrate, Pulwama, Muneer-ul-Islam said that restrictions have been imposed in all parts of the district from 0400 hrs today till further orders. No person except ill persons or otherwise allowed by the Magistrates shall be allowed to move, an order issued by the District Magistrate said. Hundreds of paramilitary forces and state police personnel, wearing bullet proof jackets and holding automatic weapons have been deployed in Pulwama to strictly implement the curfew restrictions. Residents alleged that vegetable sellers and milkmen were not allowed to enter the towns from outskirts by the security forces. A report from Pampore and Awantirpora said large number of security forces remained deployed on both sides of Srinagar-Jammu national highway to prevent any untoward incident.
