Ladakh-Kashmir highway closed, Srinagar-Jammu road open

Srinagar, Nov 15 (UNI) The 434-km-long national highway, linking Ladakh region with Kashmir and historic Mughal road, was closed for traffic due to early morning snowfall.

A traffic police official told UNI that traffic on the Srinagar-Leh national highway was suspended on Wednesday morning following snowfall at Zojilla pass. The road had become slippery due to snowfall, he said, adding that traffic would be restored if the weather will improve. 'We will allow traffic from Drass to Kashmir on the highway and from Srinagar to Leh in the afternoon after the road become safe for journey,' he said.

He said traffic on 86-km-long historic Mughal road, connecting Shopian in South Kashmir to Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region has also been suspended due to snowfall at Peer-ki-Gali and other places early this morning. Efforts are being made to restore the traffic, he said, adding that the road has become slippery.

Meanwhile, traffic official said that traffic on the highway, linking Kashmir valley with the rest of the country was plying despite rain. However, heavy vehicles will continue to ply from one side only while light vehicles will operate from both sides.
