Krishna, Godavari Rivers continue to be in spate, several villages marooned

Vijayawada, Aug 16 (UNI) The heavy floods of the river Krishna and Godavari inundated several villages and damaged crops in thousands of acres in Krishna, Guntur, West Godavari and East Godavari districts Sunday.
Incessant rains have been occurring for the last two days under the influence of low pressure damaged crops in thousands of acres. The Munneru rivelet is also inspate following heavy rains in the catchment areas in Telangana State.
The people living in several villages in Devipatnam mandal in EG district were shifted to rehabilitation centres. Some villages including Chintooru, Kunavaram, VR Puram and Yetapaka were stuck in the Godavari flood water. Toyeeru, Devipatnam, Pudipalli, Dandangi, A Veeravaram, Pochammagandi, Ganugula Gondu and Pathuru villages were stuck in flood water. Sources said that the flood water entered into 1500 houses and the electricity was cut off to the villages as a precautionary measure in EG district.
The river Krishna is also in spate following heavy inflows from the Munneru rivelet. The Jaggaipet and Khammam highway was inundated due to overflowing of flood water at Lingala village in Vatsavai mandal in Krishna district and the officials diverted vehicles via Penuganchiprolu.
The NDRP personnel rescued three farmers who were stuck in the Poochi stream in Nandigama mandal in Krishna district.
The Anasagaram canal developed breach resulting in hundreds of acres marooned in flood water. Crops in thousands of acres are marooned in flood water of the river Krishna and Godavari in the three districts.
The water level stood at 28.890 meters at cofferdam at Polavaram project, 13.830 feet at Polavaram project. Water level stood at 14.50 feet at Dowleswaram barrage while 14,21,491 cusecs of water was being discharged into the sea. Officials said that 80,000 cusecs of water being released into the sea at Prakasham barrage here on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the officials sounded second danger signal at Dowleswaram barrage. Three NDRF teams were kept ready to swing into action if needed. The officials in West Godavari district were put the officials on high alert as the flood situation of river Godavari remains grim.
