Mumbai, May 5 (UNI) The Kolkata Knight Riders' playoffs dream vanished on Sunday, when Mumbai Indians defeated them by nine wickets with 29 balls, to spare, here at Wankhede stadium.
Put in to bat by Mumbai, Kolkata could have scored more runs, but Lasith Malinga's brilliant spell of 35/3 restricted Kolkata on a score of 133/7 in stipulated 20 overs.
In reply, the hosts got off to a brilliant start as the opening pair of Quinton de Kock and skipper Rohit Sharma added 46 runs for the first wicket. But they couldn't convert it into a big partnership, as De kock fell to Prasidh Krishna on a score of 30 runs of 23 balls. His inning included one four and three sixes.
After De Kock's departure, Mumbai didn't look back and Rohit with Suryakumar Yadav, stitched an 88-run partnership and guided their team towards victory.
Rohit scored 55 runs off 48 balls with the help of eight fours and remained unbeaten, while Yadav made 46 runs off 27 balls. His innings included 4 fours and two sixes.
