Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 29 (UNI) COVID-19 was confirmed in 5,643 people newly in Kerala on Sunday even as 5,861 patients have recovered from the disease, Health Minister KK Shailaja said.
The Minister in a press release here this evening said "Of the positive cases reported today, 4,951 were cases of local transmission and the source of infection for 571 was not traceable. There were 34 health personnel among those infected."
Meanwhile, 27 deaths were confirmed today as being caused by Covid and the related death toll in the state is now 2,223.
She said 49,775 samples were tested in the last 24 hours and the test positivity rate is 11.34%. Till now, a total of 62,27,787 samples have been sent for testing.
The district-wise numbers for the new active cases are Kozhikode 851, Malappuram 721, Thrissur 525, Ernakulam 512, Kollam 426, Kottayam 399, Palakkad 394, Alappuzha 381, Thiruvananthapuram 370, Kannur 277, Idukki 274, Pathanamthitta 244, Wayanad 147 and Kasaragod 122. Today, 87 of those diagnosed have arrived in the state from outside.
The figures for those infected through contact in the districts are Kozhikode 801, Malappuram 688, Thrissur 513, Ernakulam 374, Kollam 424, Kottayam 392, Palakkad 229, Alappuzha 376, Thiruvananthapuram 244, Kannur 247, Idukki 244, Pathanamthitta 173, Wayanad 134 and Kasargod 112.
The count of the infected healthcare workers from the districts are Thiruvananthapuram 8, Kannur 5, Ernakulam & Thrissur 4, Kozhikode 3, Palakkad & Wayanad 2 each, and Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Malappuram & Kasaragod 1 each.
The district-wise figures for the patients who test results were negative today are Thiruvananthapuram 638, Kollam 152, Pathanamthitta 162, Alappuzha 896, Kottayam 215, Idukki 148, Ernakulam 1001, Thrissur 293, Palakkad 338, Malappuram 776, Kozhikode 733, Wayanad 140, Kannur 259 and Kasargod 110.
At present, there are 64,589 patients undergoing treatment while a total of 5,32,658 persons have so far recovered from Covid in the State.
There are 3,15,497 people under isolation in various districts of the state - 2,99,601 under home or institutional quarantine and 15,896 in hospitals. 1,840 persons were admitted to the hospitals today.
One place each in Idukki and Kottayam districts were declared as new hotspots (total two) today while eight areas have been excluded. There are 524 hotspots in Kerala now.
