Karnataka CM Kumaraswamy seeks preemptive trust vote in Assembly

Bengaluru, Jul 12 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy took a voluntary step seeking time with the Legislative Assembly Speaker to move a trust vote amid serious threat faced by the JD(S)-Congress Coalition Government amid resignation by at least 14 MLAs of ruling coalition partners since last one week.
The Chief Minister, on the opening day of the 11-day Legislature Session on Friday, before the Speaker took up Obituary motion, informed the Chair that there was a question over the existence of his government amid threat by ‘rebel’ legislators and he would seek a date to prove his majority in this Monsoon session of the Karnataka Legislature.
‘’I am seeking your permission and time to prove the majority in this session. Please fix a date when I can prove my majority,’’ Kumaraswamy requested Assembly Speaker.
Meanwhile, the BJP which has said that the government is in minority, has urged the Chief Minister to quit his post immediately.
As soon as Kumaraswamy made a statement on seeking a trust vote, Yeddyurappa walked out of Assembly and went to his chamber to hold discussion with law experts on what the BJP would do on Monday, when the Assembly session resumes.
Meanwhile, reports reaching the city said that the Supreme Court, hearing on the matter of the ‘rebel’ MLAs today adjourned the matter till Tuesday and ordered a status quo on the possible Speaker’s decision to whether accept the resignation of the resigned MLAs or to disqualify them under the 10th Schedule of the Law.
