Bengaluru/New Delhi, Jul 15 (UNI) Karnataka Assembly Spreaker KR Ramesh Kumar on Monday announced that the JD(S)-Congress government would face the confidence motion on the floor of the house on Thursday, July 18.
Karnataka has been in the throes of a crisis after the HD Kumarswamy government had apparently been reduced to minority with the resignation of rebel MLAs.
Speaker said that the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the House, chaired by him met on Monday, and decided to take up the confidence motion to be moved by the Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy.
During the BAC meeting, Opposition BJP, while agreeing to the proposal to table the Confidence Motion on Thursday, urged the Speaker to adjourn the house till the motion was taken up for debate in the House.
The speaker agreed to the BJP’s point of view and decided to adjourn the House till Thursday.
The HD Kumaraswamy government plunged into crisis after 16 of the Congress and JD(S) MLAs resigned from the assembly.
Supreme Court would hear tomorrow petitions filed by 15 rebel MLAs against assembly speaker for not accepting their resignation as legislators.
They sought an urgent hearing in their case which had wide-ranging ramifications in the ongoing political impasse in the state.
