JD(S) Tasleema becomes new Mayor of Mysore

Mysuru, Jan 18 (UNI) Janata Dal (Secular) candidate Tasleema became the new Mayor of Mysore while Congress candidate Sridhar was elected as deputy mayor of the city corporation in the elections held here on Saturday.
This is the first time ever in the history of the corporation a Muslim woman has been elected as the mayor of the city.
Tasleema, who garnered 47 votes, defeated her nearest rival BJP's Geetha Yoganand, who could muster only 23 votes. Meanwhile, Dalit Congress candidate Srihdar was elected as deputy mayor.
