Japan estimates record low number of newborns in 2020

Tokyo, Oct 24 (UNI) The Japanese government disclosed on Saturday that it expects the number of babies born in 2020 to drop to around 845,000, hence hitting a new record low.
The estimated figure is well below the 865,239 mark of 2019, presently the lowest number of annual births since data became available 120 years ago.
As per data by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, the number of newborns fell below 1 million for the first time in 2016. The decline is attributed to people marrying late or not marrying at all.
