Janmashtami being celebrated in Bangladesh

Dhaka, Aug 23 (UNI) The festival of Janmashtami, which marks the birth of Lord Krishna, is being celebrated with religious fervour and gusto across Bangladesh on Friday.
It is believed that on this day Lord Krishna was born to Devaki and Vasudeva in a prison in Mathura,UP in a king Kansa's kingdom to free the world from miseries.
Members of the Hindu community will bring out processions in the country capital, Dhaka, divisional cities and district towns, displaying the eventful life of Krishna and hold other programmes to mark the occasion.
Different social, cultural and religious organisations have chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrate Janmashtami. Its public holiday today (Friday).
Meanwhile, Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina greeted the members of Hindu community on the occasion.
In his message, the President said, "Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony where people of all religions perform their own religious rituals freely."
In a separate message, the PM hoped that the ideals and teachings of Lord Krishna will inspire his disciples to further consolidate the ties of communal harmony, friendship and fraternity.
The national dailies have published special articles while Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television and other private TV channels along with radio stations have also been airing special programmes highlighting different aspects of the eventful life of Lord Krishna.
