J&K Civil Society group for social boycott of people taking part in panchayat, ULB polls

Srinagar, Sep 26 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Coordination Committee (JKCSCC) on Wednesday announced social boycott of those people, who will participate in panchayat and Urban Local Body (ULB) polls in the state.
The move by the civil society group comes days after two main regional political parties -- National Conference (NC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) -- announced boycott of Panchayat and ULB polls in the state on the issue of Article-35A.
The JKCSCC, which claims to have members from all three regions of the state -- Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, also urged all regional political parties and people, irrespective of their religion or demography, to present a united front to protect Article 35-A, which empowers the Jammu and Kashmir state legislature to define “permanent residents” of the state. The Article provides special rights and privileges to those permanent residents.
