Israel goes cashless on public transport to contain corona

Tel Aviv, Mar 15 (UNI) Israel Ministry of Transport on Sunday announced to ban the use of cash in public transport to keep a check on the spread of novel coronavirus pandemic.
Going cashless in trains and buses would to reduce the circulation of currency as cash is seen as one of the major mediums of transmitting this contagious and deadly disease, the ministry said, adding that the decision will come into effect from Tuesday.
From March 17, payments would only be possible via electronic smart cards.
