Mumbai, Apr 21 (UNI) Mumbai Indians' batsman Tim David and batting coach Kieron Pollard have been fined for their involvement in assisting Suryakumar Yadav with a Decision Review System (DRS) call from outside the field during their IPL match against Punjab Kings on April 18.
The incident occurred during an over bowled by Punjab Kings' Arshdeep Singh. David and Pollard were spotted providing guidance to Suryakumar Yadav, who then opted to refer the umpire's decision using the DRS system. Despite objections from Punjab Kings' captain Sam Curran, the umpire proceeded with the review.
The actions of David and Pollard breached the IPL’s Code of Conduct, leading to their Level 1 offence under Article 2.20 of the Code.
The incident also violated Appendix 1 of the ICC Playing Handbook, which states, "If the umpires believe that the captain or batsman has received direct or indirect input emanating other than from the players on the field, then they may at their discretion decline the request for a Player Review. In particular, signals from the dressing room must not be given."
Both David and Pollard accepted the Match Referee’s sanctions and were fined 20 percent of their respective match fees.
