New Delhi, Sep 15 (UNI) The junior boxers created history by clinching a sweep of medals in all 13 categories, including six gold, six silver and a bronze at the 13th International Silesian Boxing Championships for women in Poland on Friday.
With boxers participating from all 17 nations in the tournament, the Indian boxers brought off special achievement with as many as 12 sailing into the finals.Bharti, Tingmila Doungel, Sandeep Kaur, Neha, Arshi and Komal secured the yellow metal, while Amisha, Sanya Negi, Aashreya, Mitika, Raj Sahiba and Lipakshi clinched silver medals.Neha was the only one who had settled for bronze in the semis.
In the finals, Bharti won her 46 kg class bout with an unanimous 5:0 verdict over Poland’s Izabela Iwanczuk to set the ball in motion. This was followed by Tingmila Doungel, a student from boxing legend Mary Kom’s academy; she BEAT Eleina of Germany, also with a 5:0 points in 46 kg. Next, Sandeep Kaur also managed a similar score line against Poland’s Karolina Ampulska in 52 kg.
