Infiltraton bid foiled, 2 militants killed in ongoing encounter in Kashmir

Srinagar, Sep 18 (UNI) Alert troops today foiled a major infiltration bid along LoC in Kashmir, killing two militants in Gurez sector of Bandipora district, Defence Ministry spokesperson said. Colonel N N Joshi told UNI that troops noticed a group of militants sneaking into this side from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) in Gurez sector in the wee hours under the cover of darkness. However, when challenged and asked to surrender immediately after they entered this side at Kanzalwan on the Line of Control (LoC), militants opened fire with automatic weapons. Troops also retaliated and in the fierce encounter, two militants were killed. Bodies of the militants and two AK rifles and other arms and ammunition were recovered and the operation was going on in the woods, he said. UNI BAS SV 0837
