Industrial Production in July declines by 10.4 pc

New Delhi, Sep 11 (UNI) India's Index of Industrial Production for July contracted by 10.4 per cent, according to the data released by the government on Friday.
The industrial output stood at (-) 10.4 per cent in July, as against 4.9 per cent growth in the same month last year.
''It may not be appropriate to compare the IIP in the post pandemic months with the IIP for months preceding the COVID 19 pandemic,'' the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation said.
The percentage growth in July for Manufacture of food products was (-)4.6, beverages (-)33.5 and tobacco products 6.1.
Growth in Manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers stood at (-)31.4 per cent, while Other manufacturing stood at (-)43.9 per cent.
In view of the preventive measures and announcement of nation-wide lockdown by the Government to contain the spread of COVID-19 pandemic, a large number of the industrial sector establishments were not operating from the end of March, 2020 onwards.
This has had an impact on the items being produced by the establishments during the period of lockdown. With the lifting of restrictions in the subsequent periods, industrial activity is resuming, the ministry said.
For July 2020, the Quick Estimates of IIP stood at 118.1. The Indices of Industrial Production for the Mining, Manufacturing and Electricity sectors for the month stood at 87.2, 118.8 and 166.3 respectively.
Further, the indices for Consumer durables and Consumer non-durables stood at 99.5 and 156.4, respectively for the month.
Along with the Quick Estimates of IIP for July, the indices for June have undergone the first revision and those for April 2020 have undergone the final revision, in the light of the updated data received from the source agencies.
