IndiGo profit jumps to Rs 1,203 cr in April-June quarter

Gurugram, Jul 19 (UNI) Private airline IndiGo on Friday reported a net profit of Rs 1,203.14 crore in the first quarter of April-June in financial year 2019-20.
The airline has posted Rs 27.79 crore profit in the same quarter last year, carrier CEO Ronojoy Dutta said while releasing the quarterly results.
Mr Dutta said, "I am pleased to report our highest ever quarterly profit after tax of Rs 12 billion. Strong passenger revenues along with a sharp improvement in cargo performance were key drivers to this improved profitability. We are particularly pleased with this quarter because it demonstrated our ability to grow rapidly while simultaneously expanding our margin performance.”
Revenue from Operations registered an increase of 44.7 per cent to Rs 9,420.10 crore for the quarter, against a 30.3 per cent increase in capacity compared to same period last year.
For the quarter, passenger ticket revenues were Rs 8,445.10 crore, an increase of 46.4 per cent and ancillary revenues were Rs 902.6 crore, an increase of 32.2 per cent compared to the same period last year.
Total expenses for the quarter ended June were Rs 8,277.50 crore, an increase of 22 per cent over the corresponding period last year.
As of June 30, this year, lndiGo has a total cash balance of Rs 17,337 crore comprising Rs 7,696.8 crore of free cash and Rs 9,640.2 crore of restricted cash.
The carrier has a total debt, including the capitalised lease liability, of Rs 18,430.9 crore, he added.
Mr Dutta said the carrier’s basic earnings per share was Rs 31.29 for the quarter.
