India hits new record in daily vaccination jabs

New Delhi, Jun 21 (UNI) India has hit the record number of COVID-19 vaccination jabs in one day with over 80 lakh shots administered to the populace on Tuesday.
Earlier, the country had achieved a single-day record of 45 lakh doses being given on April 5.
"Nearly 81 lakh (80,95,314) doses have been administered on the first day of the new phase of COVID-19 Vaccination," the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed happiness over the rising figures of vaccination and said that the vaccine remains our strongest weapon to fight the "millennium scourge".
"Today’s record-breaking vaccination numbers are gladdening. The vaccine remains our strongest weapon to fight COVID-19. Congratulations to those who got vaccinated and kudos to all the front-line warriors working hard to ensure so many citizens got the vaccine. Well done India!," the Prime Minister tweeted.
Mr Modi, in a major policy shift on June 7, had announced to provide free vaccination to people of 18-44 years of age.
At that time, he gave a clarion call to all citizens to vaccinate themselves and encourage others who are eligible to take the COVID-19 vaccine.
Notably, during May, more than 7.9 cr vaccines were available for the nationwide COVID19 vaccination exercise. These were ramped up to 11.78 cr in June.
Today Madhya Pradesh administered the maximum 15,42,632 doses followed by Karnataka 10,67,734, Uttar Pradesh 6,74,546, Gujarat 5,02,173, Haryana 4,72,659 and so on.
