Brasilia, Nov 12 (UNI) India has called for an end to the growing trend of non-tariff barriers which deny market access and raise cost of doing trade for developing countries, especially for the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.
At the 9th BRICS Trade Ministers Meet here on Monday, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal stressed the need for a"win-win mindset" to spur world trade and promote equity.
Non-tariff barriers can include excessive red tape, quotas, embargoes, sanctions and levies, or anything else that stop one from competing effectively. They can affect all forms of goods and services exports – from food and manufactured products, through to digital services.
As part of their political or economic strategy, large developed countries frequently use non-tariff barriers to control the amount of trade they conduct with other countries.

The trade ministers of BRICS countries -- Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa -- at their meeting focussed on the unilateral, protectionist trade measures and respect for the World Trade Organization.
"We reaffirm our commitment to transparent, non-discriminatory, open, free and inclusive international trade. We reiterate our full support for the rules-based multilateral trading system, with the WTO at its core," they said.
The BRICS working group on e-commerce also discussed enhancing cooperation and sharing of best practices.
Goyal highlighted the adverse impact of predatory pricing on millions of small retailers and need for e-commerce to follow letter and spirit of the law.
The ministerial was held in preparation for the group's 11th summit, to take place on Wednesday and Thursday.
