Kolkata, Jul 6 (UNI) All incoming flights to Kolkata from six cities across India have been suspended for two weeks with effect from today.
The Civil Aviation Ministry has conceded a demand from the West Bengal government in a bid to combat increasing cases of Covid-19.
" The temporary restriction on arriving flights to Kolkata Airport from six cities - Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Nagpur and Ahmedabad - is at the request of the State Government to restrict
movement from high prevalence cities of Coronavirus cases in order to contain the spread of COVID-19, " Kolkata airport said in its twitter handle.
" It is informed that no flights shall operate to Kolkata from Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Chennai & Ahmedabad from 6th to 19th July 2020 or till further order whichever is earlier. Inconvenience caused is regretted, " it clarified after the Civil Aviation Ministry conceded the State Government's
last week request in a bid to contain the deadly pandemic.
Covid cases casualties have been on higher graph daily when 21 people died of pandemic taking the toll to 757 till yesterday, while active cases accounted for 6658 .
Aviation sources said a couple of flights left the city airport early today and there has been no incoming flight so far.
