By Kaushik Kumar

New Delhi, Sep 18 (UNI) In the past few years, the nation has witnessed back to back professional club-based leagues in various sporting disciplines like Cricket, Hockey, Football, Kabaddi and now the sports lover would most probably witness another such cash-rich league in Basketball next year.

Recently, in an exciting development, the launch of a 3×3 Pro Basketball League (3BL) in India was announced in the national capital, which is tentatively scheduled for next year. The upcoming league, which will be India’s first and only International Basketball Federation (FIBA) authorized 3×3 Pro League, will be organised by the YKBK Enterprise.

Talking to UNI about the league, YKBK CEO Rohit Bakshi said,"Currently, the plan is to implement the league (3BL) which will consist of 12 teams. We are also in talks with various companies for franchising these teams." Further speaking on the process to select the players, he explained,"We will do open tryouts to ensure that no hidden talent is gone unnoticed and we give an outlet to any player regardless of what background they come from." "After this, we may adopt a draft or auction system," added Rohit. He also said that the organizers are already in talks with some sports broadcasters for the live coverage of the league, which will also feature foreign clubs beside the national ones. "For broadcasting the league, we have already started the talks a few months ago, but it's a process of evaluation and we will take a call on the best option we have," concluded he. Significantly, the 3x3 basketball is a shorter version from the original game as each team consists of three players and one substitute. Also, the game which has been inducted in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics is played on a half-court, with one basket. UNI KU SHK 1726
