IFFCO official among 3 held by CBI in fertiliser fraud worth around Rs 2.41 cr

New Delhi, Mar 26 (UNI) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today registered a case against former officials of the Indian Farmers Fertilizers Cooperative Ltd (IFFCO), Kerala State Cooperative Marketing Federation (Marketfed) and a transport contractor in Thrissur (Kerala) for causing a loss of around Rs 2.41 crore to the Government Exchequer by submitting bogus bills.
According to CBI sources, a former Field Officer, in connivance with the then officer In-charge of IFFCO and the transport contractor, had allegedly submitted bogus bills in the names of 31 Cooperative Societies in and around Trichur (Kerala), showing the supply of subsidised urea to these societies. However, the accused diverted the subsidised urea to some industrial companies for illegal monetary benefit.
During the period between April, 2015 to January, 2016, around 1096 tonne urea was allegedly misutilised by raising bogus bills in favour of these Cooperative Societies, causing loss of around Rs 2.41 crore by way of subsidies to the Government Exchequer, sources added.
