I feel 'Belan Wali Bahu' is my autobiography: Krystle D'Souza

I feel 'Belan Wali Bahu' is my autobiography: Krystle D'Souza

By Sanya Pandey

New Delhi, Jan 22 (UNI) Television actress Krystle D'Souza, who plays the lead role of 'Roopa' in Colors new daily soap 'Belan Wali Bahu' , says she feels that this show is her autobiography.

Talking to UNI, Krystle, who was in the national capital to promote her show, said, "My character Roopa and Krystle are very similar, as both of them are very clumsy. They both fall, do things unknowingly. They look perfect but do opposite things. Roopa and Krystle are equally goofy and I really feel that this show is my autobiography."

On the reason of giving nod to this show, Krystle, ranked No 19 in the 'Top 50 Sexiest Asian Women List', said,"I said yes because it's a comedy serial, so it was a brand new genre for me.

'I have tried everything--supernatural, empowering woman, tragedy, drama. Then, for the first time I received an offer of comedy role, so I said why not try this. When I went to the office for the briefing of my character 'Roopa', then I realised that honestly no one else could have done this role much better than me. Because Roopa is almost Krystal. 'Roopa is Krystle, Krystle is Roopa'. The only difference is Roopa wears a saree and Krystle wears jeans.'

On her relation with the rolling pin or 'belan' in real life, the actress said,"No not at all. I don't know how to cook and neither I have any interest in cooking, or going into the kitchen. I work for almost 12 hours, travel, so after all the daily schedule of work, it is very difficult for me to cook. I order food mostly from different apps available, or when my mother is there, she cooks for me."

Taking about her experience of working alongside Dheeraj Sarna, she said,"my experience with Dheeraj sir is very good, because he is the producer, writer and actor of our show. so there is never any sort of compromise in any scene, we only improvise things.

'On sets we keep on improvising the scene. So since he is there with us, we can keep changing things, making it better, and the thing that matters is what did we shoot at the end of the day. The scene is written on paper, but how we put life in that scene, that Dheeraj sir helps us to do with his presence,. He never makes us dull in any scene, never compromises but always encourages us to improvise our characters, and take out those characteristics that makes the show go forward.'

Asked whether her image of an 'ideal' bahu on Television will change after this show, the 27-years-old actress said,"I think every show changes an image for you.In the last show I played a supernatural character, so that was also an image-breaking role for me.I think in every show it is necessary that your character changes a little, otherwise your audience will get bored."

I think every show is a changing point. Like when I did 'Ek nayi Pehchaan' --a woman empowerment show, I think many people got educated after seeing that show. According to me every show and character gives you a very big lift, and at the end of the day, audiences start following the actors along with their roles. 'Roopa' is of course a changing point for me,'

Asked whether it is a good phase for Indian Television, Krystal said,"I think it is a brilliant phase, because there are so many channels, opportunities, and audience is getting so many varieties.

I think for TV it has become very competitive, and motivational also. We have to make something unique that no one has ever made. Comedy show like this you will not see on any channel--there is drama,"belan" and "bahu".You will get comedy from "belan" and drama from "bahu". I think it's a first dramady show on TV. It's not out an out comedy. And it's very important for us to keep that thing balanced, because then we will become a different show, So I think my TV phase is superb right now. I have played different characters back to back in the past years and I got this opportunity because TV has achieved new heights,.'

On working in web series, the actress said,"web series are fabulous. In future, if I get a good project I would love to do a web series also. They make different and real content.

Web medium provides personal space, where person of any age group can watch their favourite shows." .

Telling about her strength as an actor, Krystle said,"Reactions. I think I am very responsive, I give immediate reactions. I feel acting is all about reacting. If you get the emotions right and react on it, then half of your work is done."

Asked whether she will ever take part in any reality show like 'Bigg Boss', the actress said,"For now I am booked, so I don't have time for Bigg Boss or any other reality show right now."

"Belan Wali Bahu" is revolves around Roopa, a clumsy yet softhearted housewife who tries her best to please everyone but one way or another, she always fails. The show throws light on how the role of the average housewife is hugely undermined in a family, especially by husbands.

Besides Krystle, the cast includes Dheeraj Sarna who plays Roopa’s husband, Mushtaq Khan, Bhavana Balsavar,Sikandar Kharbanda,Shraddha Jaiswal and Sunayana Fozdar.
