Hong Kong Open: Sindhu, Prannoy enter round two, Saina bows out

New Delhi, Nov 13 (UNI) India shuttlers PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy progressed to round two of the Hong Kong Open Badminton in the women's and men's singles winning their respective games against their rivals while Saina Nehwal bowed out in the opening round of the tournament on Wednesday.
Sindhu wrapped up the game in just 36 minutes beating South Korea's Kim Ga Eun in straight games 21-15, 21-16 to enter the round two.
The sixth-ranked Indian next faces Busanan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand.
Sindhu had crashed in the opening round at China Open earlier this month after being edged out by Chinese Taipei's Pai Yu Po, while Tai Tzu Ying of Taiwan had ousted the Indian in the quarterfinals of the preceding French Open Super 750 tourney in October.
She bowed out in the first round and second round at the Korea Open and Denmark Open as well after being crowned world champion in Basel.
Meanwhile, India's HS Prannoy ousted China's Huang Yu Xiang in straight sets 21-17 21-17 finishing the game in 44 minutes.
Prannoy next will take on Jonatan Christie of Indonesia.
Earlier, in the day Saina lost 13-21, 20-22 to China's Cai Yan Yan. The world no 9 is struggling with her form as this is her fifth defeat in the first round from her last six tournaments.
This is Saina's second loss in the first round against Cai Yan Yan of China. Saina thus trails 0-2 to Cai Yan Yan in the overall head-to-head records.
In the first game Saina was no match against the Chinese who dominated over her Indian counterpart throughtout the game winning by 21-13.
In the decider Saina showed fighting spirit, but failed to capitalise after going down in the opening round which lasted for 30 minutes.
In another match of the men's singles, Sameer Verma lost 11-21, 21-13, 8-21 to Tzu Wei Wang of Taiwan.
