Gurmeet clinches gold in Bodh Gaya nationals

Chandigarh, Oct 21 (UNI) Gurmeet of Haryana won gold medal in 96 kg Youth Junior with a total lift of 297 kg (Snatch 137 kg, clean and jerk 160 kg) in 15th Youth (Boys & Girls), 56 Men and 32nd Women Junior National Weightlifting Championships at Bodh Gaya.
R Ramkumar of Tamil Nadu got silver with a total lift of 285 kg (snatch 128 kg, clean and jerk 170 kg). The third place went to Alok Yadav of UP with gotal lift of 278 kg (snatch 125 kg, clean and jerk 161 kg).
Akashata Kamati of Karnataka set eight new national records in 81 kg junior women's category. She established two national records in clean and jerk and two two in total. She lifted 107 kg in clean and jerk against old record of 106 kg. She went on to improve upon her own clean and jerk record of 107 with a lift of 115 kg.
With a total lift of 195 kg she broke old record of 195 kg of T Dharshini. In clean and jerk she further improved her own mark of 115 kg as she lifed 120 kg. Against her own total lift record of 195 kg, Kamati wrote her name in record books with a lift of 200 kg.
Abhimanyu Panda of Punjab set new national meet records in snatch with a lift of 121 kg against the previous record of 120 kg held by Vishvjeet Singh of Haryana. Panday went on to improve upon his own total lift of 260 kg by lifting 266 kg.
Abhishek of Uttar Pradesh created a new national record in snatch with a lift of 126 kg against previous record of 125 of Rajesh of Haryana in junior men's 109 kg class. Abhishek won gold with a total lift of 268 kg.
Results: 96 kg Youth juniors boys: 1 Gurmeet Singh (Haryana) snatch 137 kg, clean and jerk 160 kg, total 297 kg; 2 R Ramkumar (TN) snatch 128 kg, clean and jerk 157 kg, total 285 kg; 3 Alok Yadav (UP), snatch 125 kg; clean and jerk153 kg, total 278 kg.
