Guj govt announces special assistance package for farmers against crop damage

Gandhinagar, Nov 13 (UNI) Gujarat government has announced a special assistance package of Rs 700 crores for around 4,00,000 farmers in the state whose crops have been damaged due to excessive rain in the western state this year, Deputy CM cum Finance Minister Nitin Patel said here on Wednesday.

He said that the farmers whose more than 33 pc crops have been damaged would receive a compensation of Rs 13,500 crore per hectare of land in irrigated areas while those in non-irrigated areas would get Rs 6,800 per hectare.

Patel said that the decision was taken in the cabinet meeting today. He said that it has also been decided to start the purchase of groundnut at MSP from November 18.

Notably, the state has received around 146 pc rain this year which was third highest in any year in the last three decades.
