GST implementation need to be reassessed and made much simpler : Chief Economist

Hyderabad, Dec 18 (UNI): Chief Economist and HDFC Bank Executive Vice-President Mr Abheek Barua on Friday stated that the overhaul GST including both the structure and the implementation need to be reassessed and made simpler.
If not, the revenue buoyancy that was expected from this major shift in tax regime will never materialize, Mr Barua said while delivering Omprakash Tibrewala Memorial Endowment Lecture on Rebounding Indian Economy:Way Forward, organised by the Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry ( FTCCI) here.
While in many areas ‘ Collaborative federalism’ is needed especially in negotiating with the centre, there is also a need for a competitive Federal structure that should ultimately lead to some convergence of economic opportunities across the country, he stated
