Talking to newspersons here today,Mr.Vaithilignam said he concept of ‘smart city’ was a replica of the JNNURM programme implemented by the previous UPA government.He said that the Puducherry government has not not initiated any firm steps for inclusion of Puducherry in the list of smart cities.Much ado was made by the Uzhavarkarai municipality which was first announced to be a location for the smart city project. Details and suggestions were procured from the residents and they were forwarded to the Centre.
