New Delhi, June 20 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said the Centre is implementing a four-point strategy to double the income of farmers' of the country by 2022.
Interacting with farmers from over 600 districts across India via NAMO App, the Prime Minister said the four-point strategy include right price for products, reducing cultivation costs, processing farm wastes and creating non-farm sources of income.
'We are working towards ensuring that the incomes of our hardworking farmers doubles by 2022. For that, we are facilitating proper assistance wherever required. We have faith in the farmers," he said.
The Prime Minister mentioned about the schemes started by the Union Government which are focused to increase the income of farmers.
Mr Modi said to achieve the target, the government has doubled the budget for agriculture.
He said there has been a record production of grains, fruits, vegetables and milk in the country.
Mr Modi said under blue revolution, there has been increase of 26 per cent in the fisheries sector. He said there has been increase of 24 per cent in the animal husbandry sector and in the dairy sector, there has been a rise of 24 per cent.
He said the Centre has started the soil health card, through which farmers know what crop is best suited for their farms based on the health of the soil.
During the interaction, the Prime Minister encouraged the farmers to adopt drip irrigation and organic farming.
He also encouraged the farmers on alternate sources of income for farmers including poultry, bee-keeping and fisheries.
He said at present, 100 per cent neem coated urea is available to the farmers.
Mentioning about the e-Nam ( National Agriculture Market), an online trading platform for agricultural commodities, the Prime Minister said this platform is helping the farmers to get the right price for their produce.
"The government is trying to ensure that farmers get link to this eNAM platform even in rural areas. Now mediators cannot take away the share of farmers," Mr Modi said.
Mr Modi said the Centre is taking every step to help the farmers at every stage, from sowing their seeds to selling their produce in the market.
Farmers of different states interacted with the Prime Minister and shared their experiences with the Prime Minister and spoke about the Government initiatives such as soil health card and other schemes.
