Google remembers legendary bollywood actress Nutan on her 81st birth anniversary

Kolkata, Jun 4 (UNI) One of the finest actresses of Bollywood, Nutan, would have celebrated her 81st birthday, had she been alive and the film fraternity believes the iconic actress would have been a hit with audiences even today. Google, world's the most popular search engine, which takes the opportunity everyday to salute people, projects, inventions that changed the course of our lives, has today paid tribute to glittering star from the black-and-white era of Hindi cinema Nutan on his 81st birth anniversary. Today’s Google doodle shows the iconic actor in different emotions, her faces making up the two O’s of Google. The legendary actress who gave several blockbusters in a career of over four decades. She is regarded as one of the finest female actors in the history of Hindi cinema who has given some memorable performances. Born on June 4, 1936 to actress Shobhna Samarth and filmmaker Kumarsen Samarth, Nutan made her debut in films with "Hamari Beti" as a child artist, at the age of 14 and went on to work in more than 70 Hindi films in a career spanning over 40 years. Some of her most celebrated films are "Anari", "Tere Ghar Ke Saamne", "Seema", "Bandini" "Sujata" "Milan" and "Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki". Apart from working in several commercially successful films like Anari, Karma and Naam, one of the finest performances of her life came in the movies Bandini and Sujata, films that not only displayed a fine set of acting skills but also touched upon issues that plague the society. Both the films were directed by Bimal Roy. She won the awards for Seema, Milan, Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki along with Bandini and Sujata. Though popular as the ‘Queen of emotions,’ she was equally effective in breezy musicals and comedies such as ‘Dilli ka thug,’ ‘Dil hi to hai’ and ‘Tere ghar ke samne.’ She had acted with a number of male stars including Dev Anand, Raj Kapoor, Ashok Kumar, Sunil Dutt, Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra. Nutan acted opposite Dilip Kumar for the first time in the 1986 blockbuster Karma. She also worked with Dev Anand in films like popular films like Paying Guest, Baarish , Manzil and Tere Ghar Ke Samne. Kanoon Apna Apna (1989) was the last film to be released when she was alive and Naseebwala (1992) and Insaniyat (1994) were released after her death. She was the only female actor to hold five Filmfare Best Actress awards until her niece and Tanuja Mukherji’s daughter Kajol broke the record in 2011 Nutan was also way ahead of her time, being crowned Miss India in 1951. She was a gifted singer and brilliantly rendered the number ‘Aye mere humsafar’ in ‘Chabilee’ and also sang in ‘Mayuri. Nutan was married to naval Lieutenant-Commander Rajnish Bahl and passed away on February 21, 1991 at the age of 54 after suffering from breast cancer. Her son Mohnish Bahl is a film and TV actor. She was honoured with the Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian honour, in 1974. UNI BM AD 1920
