Goa CM inaugurates setting up of model career centre at employment exchange

Panaji, Jan 22 (UNI) Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Monday inaugurated Model Career Centre at employment exchange in the city.
According to a statement, the Model Career Centre is the evolved and empowered avatar of the erstwhile Employment Exchange. The Model Career Centre has been formed as part of the innovative initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to connect job aspirants to employment opportunities. The National Employment Service was transformed into the National Career Service. The Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, initiated the revamp to a new setup of the Model Career Centre.
In July 2015, the Model Career Centre scheme was adopted in Goa with a clear purpose of connecting local youth and other job aspirants with possible job opportunities. It extends counselling facilities to young aspirants to choose jobs best suited to their ability and aptitude, through counselling and training.
The initiative plays crucial role of facilitation to reduce unemployment in Goa. Through constant interaction with the local industry and employers, the government has initiated exercises to estimate employment opportunities in the area, associated skill requirements, availability of training and capacity building, etc.
The Model Career Centre, once set-up, will offer counselling to young Goan job seekers through awareness of prospects. It will assess candidates for skills and guide them to apt opportunity of employment or skill development. The services include job matching, employment market analytics and value additions.
The Model Career Centre will ensure important connections between the demand and aspirations of youth in Goa. It will connect various stakeholders like Skill Training Institutes, Assessment Bodies, School and College Administration, Local Community Leaders, Government Departments and public.
Over the last year, the Employment Office has successfully involved in various Outreach activities across Goa through Job Fairs, HR Conclave, Career Guidance Programmes, Personality Development workshops, etc. These activities have been appreciated by the Industry as well as job aspirants.
The Model Career Centre is coming up at Shram Shakti Bhavan in the city. It will house a state-of-the-art, 120 seater Training Hall with Audio-visual and video conferencing facilities. It also includes an independent counselling Room, Modular Work stations, Offices, cosy waiting areas and other facilities.
There are immediate plans to launch a State Portal for online registration of employment aspirants. Registered candidates will be issued a special Smart Card with a chip loaded with information of the candidate. The Smart Card can be swiped to provide information of qualifications, competencies, etc
The information will help potential employers to pick up suitable job seekers. Additionally, when vacancies arise, the industry will record it on the online facility to receive acknowledgment from the Department. This effective communication will facilitate connect of the job opportunity with candidate.
The Model Career Centre is all set to transform the destiny of Goa by facilitating job aspirants to an unhindered view of employment possibilities. More importantly, the Centre will offer counselling and skill training and development to enhance employability. The endeavour of the Government is to bridge the gap between employer and unemployed youth. The MCC with NCS would provide a State database of all unemployed youth. With the active co-operation of the Industry, the MCC would bring in the desired employability amongst the Goan Youth and create a win-win situation for both unemployed youth and the employer.
