Fragrance maker Takasago opens India's manufacturing facility in Chennai

Chennai, Mar 3 (UNI) Takasago, a global top five in flavor and fragrance market, today
launched its India manufacturing facility at One Hub Chennai, near Tiruporur about 45
km from here.
The facility with a manufacturing capacity in excess of 10,000 tonnes per annum, was
part of the aggressive expansion plans in India.
For more than 95 years, Takasago has developed flavors and fragrances for some of
the world’s most successful food, beverage, fine fragrance, household and personal
care products.
Takasago has a strong R and D that creates the most prestigious, effective, and
innovative flavors and fragrances.
Talking to reporters after the launch, Takasago International Corporation President
and CEO Masumura said “India being the fastest growing economy with a young
population, is on the cusp of being a world leader with reforms and policies that
make it one of the ideal investment destinations.''
''We see opportunity for immense growth, as the world is just a click away. Modern
lifestyle, increased travel, aspirations that drive consumers to experience varied and
improved products are driving factors for us to be present in this market'', he added.
''Though our focus market was India, this facility will also serve Sri Lanka, Bangladesh
and other neighbouring countries'', he said.
Mr Masumura said ease of connectivity, surplus technical talent and this upcoming
township-- an alliance between Government of Japan and India, made Chennai an
ideal choice”
Mr T T P Shaheel, MD Takasago International India, said “though we have entered
this market quiet late, we aim to be amongst the top five players in the country.''
Observing that the Chennai facility was part of its major expansion plans for India,
he said the company was expecting to grow in both flavours and fragrance, while
leveraging various consumer insight and market research tools to collaborate with
customers so as to build customer intimacy.
The increase in personal disposable income of consumers, increased confectionary
and bakery sales, and higher preference towards personal wellness products has raised
the demand for flavor and fragrance products in the country.
The growth in this segment has been largely led by the factors such as growth in
demand from young population with rising preference towards premium fragrance
and flavor products, Mr Shaheel said.
He said the growth in long run would be further infused by rising urban population
and growth in preferences towards a better lifestyle.
The demand would also stem from the rising demand for flavor and fragrance
products from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities mainly due to an increased use of personal
wellness products.
