FLO welcomes reduction of GST on household items

Hyderabad, Dec 24 (UNI) FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) , the woman business wing of apex business body Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) on Monday welcomed exemption of sanitary napkins and Rakhi's from present Goods and Service Tax (GST) as well as reduction of GST on some other essential house hold items including refrigerators, storage water heaters, washing machines, Mixer grinders and television sets by the GST Council.

“Exemption of GST on Sanitary Napkins finally is welcome as it is a great step towards empowering women as sanitary napkins are necessary for female hygiene, FLO said in a statement here.

This is a big step towards encouraging menstrual hygiene among young girls and women as scrapping of GST from Sanitary napkins will make napkins more affordable and more women will be able to use them and exempting Rakhi's from GST is a great move.” FLO President Pinky Reddy said.

"GST Council's decision to reduce taxation on host of daily house hold goods including refrigerators, washing machines and water heaters along with making the process of filing GST simpler is also welcome." she said.

“With a reduction in the rates on more items in the offing in the next meeting of the GST Council scheduled to be held next month and the indication that the remaining issues pertaining to GST application and administration will be resolved speedily, the tax reform is set to yield larger gains for the economy.” Ms Reddy said.
“Reduction in the rate of GST on movie tickets is most welcome and would benefit the film industry as well as women who are fond of watching movies. “ she added.
