Flights under RCS UDAN may take another 3-4 months: AAI

New Delhi, Jan 16 (UNI) It may not be possible before May 2017 for common man to fly at a fare of Rs 2500 under Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) from un-served or underserved airports to served or underserved or un-served airports in the country as the biding process is still to get finalise.
According to Guruprasad Mohapatra, Chairman of Airport Authority of India (AAI), today was the last day for the bidding under the RCS and Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) and the entire process may take another three to four month.
Talking to reporters in the capital, Mr Mohapatra said, "We have to see how many bids have been received for which routes.
On the readiness of the Airports, he said, “Many airports are ready to use conditions with almost no additional cost whereas there are many which require small investment. Bhavanagar, Jaisalmer, Bhatinda, Gorakhpur, Kanpur are among the airports where we may start the operation tomorrow as everything is in place. The only thing is the finalisation of the bids and the logistics."
On handing over the Ahmedabad and Jaipiur airports to Private parties for day to day management, Mr Mohapatra said AAI plans to complete award of management contract of Ahmedabad and Jaipur airports by the end of March 2017. This will be the first two airports that the state-owned airport operator will award on management contract.
