Fishermen Clash : Cases registered against 900 persons

Puducherry, Oct 15 (UNI) Police registered cases against 900 persons in connection with the clash between two groups of fishermen in the sea on Monday.

Police said on Tuesday that , cases had already been registered against 300 persons. Cases against the rest (600) were registered today.

Fishermen of both Veerampatinam and Nallavadu villages did not ventured into the sea today, following a ban imposed by the police that they should not go for fishing until a peace committee meeting was held.

Meanwhile, para-military forces which arrived here for the Kamaraj Nagar assembly by-election were deployed in the two villages.

It may be noted that the fishermen from Veerampatinam and Nallavadu villages clashed over a dispute in fishing territory forcing the police to open ten rounds of fire in the air and burst tear gas shells.
