'Avijatrik' an emotional story: Madhur Bhandarkar

Mumbai, Dec 9 (UNI) National Award winner filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar who ventured into Bengali cinema as producer with "Avijatrik", says it’s an emotional and touching story which needed to be told.
A Satyajit Ray fan, Bhandarkar along with Gaurang Jalan organized a screening of the film in Mumbai. The film is based on the last leg of Bibhutibhusan Bandopadhyay’s novel "Aparajito" and takes off from where Ray’s Apur Sansar (1959) ended.

During his interaction, when asked about the film and his decision on coming onboard as producer and presenter, Madhur said, “I am a huge fan of Satyajit Ray, I have been inspired by his film, not just me, filmmakers across world are inspired by him.

“When Gaurang Jalan narrated the story of Avijatrik and introduced me to the director of the film, I loved the story. As a filmmaker I thought this story should be made for the audience, they must know this story, and we decided to make the film.
"Hats off to Gaurang Jalan for making this film and I am presenting it. I am so happy that this film is being appreciated across the world. This movie has been to 40 film festivals and has won 28 awards. It is an emotional and touching film,” said Bandarkar.

Madhur Bhandarkar has co-produced the film, conceived as a continuation of Satyajit Ray’s Apu trilogy, with Gaurang Jalan and Sumit Agarwal.

The film stars Arjun Chakraborty as Apu, along with Arpita Chatterjee, Ditipriya Roy, Sabyasachi Chakraborty, Sreelekha Mitra and Barun Chanda.
