Eight new trains introduced in Goa during last 3 yrs of NDA rule: Report

Panaji, Jun 4 (UNI) Eight new trains were introduced in Goa during the last three years of the Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government at the Centre, according to a brochure released by Union Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhu recenlty.

The brochure, copy of which was presented to Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar by Mr Prabhu, read, ''The Konkan Railway is playing a key role in the integrated development of tourist destination on the picturesque beaches of Goa.
''In a region abounding in tourist destination, Konkan Railway acts as a catalyst for growth attracting both domestic and forign tourist. Konkan Railaway has opened new frontiers for Indian tourism as the places of tourists interest in Goa are now have better access.''

The brochure titled ‘Three years’ achievement of Indian Railways under the leadership of Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhu said the trains introduced in Goa were Tejas Superfast Express, Madgaon Rajdhani Express, LTT-Madgaon Double Decker, LTT-Karmali AC weekly express, NZM-TVC weekly train, NZM -TVM weekly train, Indore-Kochuveli Express and Madgaon-Ratnagiri.

According to the brochure, during the last three years work of doubling of tracks, work of 11 new statitions and eight loop lines was started.

Work of major capacity augmentation was under consideration with the Ministry of Railways and concession agreement had been signed between Konkan Railway and JDRL, the brochure said, adding work was started along with land acquisition and related work was in progress and tendering work of electrification had been completed and work would start soon.

On February 9 this year, Konkan Railway signed MoU with Hagerbech Test Gallery, Switzerland (VSH) for collaboration in providing specialized training in tunnel technology at Geroge Fernandes Institute for Tunnel Technolgy. CONCOR and Konkan Railway entered into a MoU to set up a Multi Modal Logistics Park at Balli Railwa Station which would be first of its kind in Goa.

Mr Prabhu had laid the foundation stone for setting up 'George Fernandes Institute for Tunnel Technology', a specialized institute for higher learning and research in tunnelling in 2015. Courses were started in November last year, three courses had been completed and 48 persons imparted training.
In 2014, a Disaster Management Centre was inugurated at Madgao, the brochure released by the Railway Ministry said.

Recently, Mr Prabhu had called on Mr Parrikar and held discussion on various ongoing projects for upgrading and modernising rail infrastructure in Goa.
