Eight die in Africa road crash

Ghana, Jan 11 (UNI) Eight people were confirmed dead and at least five others were injured when a truck and a mini bus collided in southern Ghana, Africa early on Friday, local media reported.
According to eye witnesses, a Mercedes Benz sprinter mini bus collided with an articulated truck at Boankra, near the city of Kumasi, 280 km north of the capital.
Ashanti Regional Commander of the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Division (MTTD) Chief Frank Abrokwah, who spoke to local media, said the driver of the mini bus lost control of his vehicle after overtaking another bus on the wrong side of the lane at a portion of the road with speed rumps.
"He lost control of the steering wheel and ran into the lane of the oncoming truck and crashed into it," the police officer explained.

In an attempt to avoid the mini bus, the truck veered off its lane and ran into a house, causing extensive damages to the house, he said.
