New Delhi, Jul 25(UNI) A team of doctors at Fortis Hospital Vasant Kunj conducted India's first simultaneous open-heart surgery and segmental mastectomy under general anesthesia on a 55-year-old patient from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.
A team of doctors consisting of oncologists, cardiologists, radiologists, anesthesiologists and critical care specialists, conducted the simultaneous surgeries on the patient named Renu.
The Doctors told a press conference here that the patient was brought to the hospital with cancer in her right breast. After some tests, it was revealed that it was an "atrial myxoma", a benign tumor. With the presentation of evidence of two different tumors- one in breast and one in heart, treatment options narrowed, they added.
