Domestic help held for Rs 39 lakh theft in Thane

Thane, Nov 22 (UNI) A 51-year-old Jharkhand native was held in his hometown on the alleged charge of committing Rs 39 lakh theft at a I-T official's residence here, where he worked as domestic help, informed police on Friday.
The accused have been identified as Hiralal Gorain, a resident of the Bansimli village in the Bokaro of Jharkhand, said police.
Talking to UNI, Chitalsar Police Station senior Inspector Jitendra Rathod stated, "On November 1, the family members of the complainant, a retired I-T officer, went to their hometown for Chhath Puja."
The victim family resided in the posh Hiranandani Meadows locality of the city.
"Upon returning on November 15, they found their house was burgled and the ornaments along with other items valuing upto of Rs 39 lakh were stolen, he apprised.
During investigation, the accused came under suspicion lens as he didn't return from Jharkhand since the month of June, mentioned police.
Based on a tip-off, a police team from here went to Jharkhand and with the assistance of local police, nabbed the accused Hiralal on November 18, told police, adding that the stolen booty has been recovered.
The accused was aware of the family going for Chhath Puja, and sensing it as an opportune time, he committed the theft, briefed police.
