Dist Panchayat polls: BSP emerges biggest party in Haridwar

Haridwar, Jan 7 (UNI) BSP has emerged as a force to reckon with, while BJP got a severe setback here as the results for the three tier elections of rural bodies, including gram panchayats, were announced today.
The three tier polls of the rural bodies for members of six block development committees and 47 members for the district panchayat were held in three phases, on December 21, 27 and January 2.
The counting started on January 5 and the results started coming in from late in the evening the same day. However, counting was very slow and all the results could be declared early today by the District Magistrate and District Returning Officer Harbans Singh Chugh.
